Many of you have asked for a Seaside model with a cream-colored upper, as well as more shoe models made from Banbū Leather™, which was also used in the popular Original Bamboo Limited Edition. Therefore, we combined these requests and developed the Seaside Bamboo in the Oat colorway.
Seaside Bamboo boasts the highest percentage of biodegradable materials we've ever offered. Both the vegan leather straps and the sole material are 100% biodegradable. The creamy white upper is made from Banbū Leather™ – a new generation of vegan leather crafted from bamboo fibers. The outsole is made from Pilant™, an innovative, 100% plastic-free material created from natural rubber, plant-based pigments, and minerals. Seaside Bamboo retains the popular cork insole we already use in most colorways of our existing Seaside models.
What is Banbū Leather™?
Banbū Leather™ was developed by von Holzhausen to create a vegan leather that rivals animal leather in quality. The criteria by which von Holzhausen develops its materials are: 100% vegan and cruelty-free, non-toxic, ethically produced, low carbon emissions, and minimal waste.
The Banbū Leather™ used for our Limited Editions is distinguished by its high plant content of 83%. Compared to conventional leather, the production of Banbū Leather™ generates five times less carbon emissions. This vegan leather is not only environmentally friendly but also highly functional: it is stain-resistant, water-repellent, and scratch-resistant. Furthermore, it weighs only one-third the weight of genuine leather, making it the perfect choice for our barefoot shoes, which are designed for lightness and comfort.
What is Pilant™?
Pilant™ was developed by NFW to create a completely plastic-free outsole material that can be recycled in the biological cycle, thus protecting the planet. Pilant™ is USDA-certified 100% bio-based. The primary component of this insole material is the sap from rubber trees sourced from FSC-certified, responsibly managed forests. This is then combined with other natural substances and a patented curing process to create outsoles.
Seaside Bamboo vs. Seaside Luxe: What is the difference?
Visually, our Seaside Bamboo Limited Edition is very similar to our Seaside Luxe model. However, the use of particularly sustainable materials for the sole and straps results in some differences. The Banbū Leather™ of the straps offers a particularly pleasant and high-quality feel, being incredibly soft and flexible. The "Oat" color is exclusive to Seaside Bamboo and not available in the Seaside Luxe version. The Pilant™ sole also stands out due to its exceptional sustainability and differs from the Seaside Luxe in its light color, different tread pattern, and, most importantly, its thickness. Seaside Bamboo remains incredibly flexible, but with a sole thickness of 8.5 mm, it is slightly thicker than our other Seaside models, which are only 7 mm thick. Seaside Bamboo is therefore ideal for those who prefer a bit more cushioning in their Seaside sandals.
Finding the right size made easy
Seaside Bamboo shoes are true to size. If you already own a pair of Seaside Twill or Luxe shoes, we recommend choosing the same size for Seaside Bamboo, as the sole has identical proportions.
With sandals, it's important that there isn't too much space in front of your toes to avoid tripping. Therefore, we've made the soles of our Seaside models slightly shorter than the soles of our closed-toe shoes. For this reason, we recommend choosing the same size for Seaside that you normally wear in other Feelgrounds. The right size for your Seaside sandals depends not only on the length and width of your foot, but also on its volume. Seaside Bamboo offers a similar fit to Seaside Luxe and is slightly looser compared to Seaside Twill. Therefore, Seaside Bamboo is particularly well-suited for medium instep volumes. The straps of all Seaside models feature an elastic band on the inside of the instep to ensure a good fit for a variety of foot shapes. However, for lower instep heights, we recommend Seaside Twill.
For customers whose foot size falls between two sizes, we recommend choosing based on foot volume. For a larger foot volume, the larger size should be chosen, while for a smaller foot volume, the smaller size is the better choice.
